5 Ways to Save Time on your Beauty Routine

Does anyone else remember those days, Pre kids when you were going out in the evening and you could start getting ready sometime in the morning and then spend all afternoon continuing to get ready? Painting your nails, washing your hair styling it, applying fake tan, exfoliating, shaving, waxing applying a full face of make up and then trying on at least four different outfits before deciding what to wear? How things change when you become a mum. There are some days I’m lucky to even have time for a wee let alone run a brush through my hair or slap on some make up.

Obviously, when you are a mum how you look it’s not the upmost priority. Of course the needs of your kids come first. But I don’t think there’s anything wrong with making the effort to look your best. We all know that when we look good, we feel good. So don’t ever feel guilty about putting the timing to beautify yourself! Here are my top tips for managing your beauty. So managing to be a mum.

  • Invest in some multitasking beauty products. There is definitely a time and a place for the layering technique, (when you layered zeros creams and oils et cetera), however when you are really pressed for time, especially in the mornings, there are some great products which will do the job of money in one. For example, there are some really good antiageing tinted moisturisers. Rather than taking the time to apply serum, moisturiser, SPF, and then foundation why not invest in a product which does all of these in one go? This one by Bare Minerals has SPF 30.

  • Treat yourself and your purse to a low maintenance hairstyle and colour. Everyone is different, some of us love short hair some of us love long hair but it makes sense to opt for a style and cut that does not need a lot of time. More and more women are choosing balayage for their hair colour. This means you don’t have to keep going back and forth to the salon to have your roots touched up. It also looks great.
    • Organise your morning routine. After having my six baby in March, I knew the morning routine was going to get even more chaotic. But I was not prepared to go make up free. I’ve changed my morning routine, and it’s made such a difference. I set my alarm half an hour earlier than I used to and this gives me the opportunity to put my make up on while the kids are asleep. This means it takes half the time used to do because I can get ready uninterrupted. Win, win.
    • Consider investing in some semi permanent make up, for example having your brows tinted or getting LVL lashes. I wrote about this in a previous post, see here and I have reviewed LVL lashes here.. If you can afford it, these beauty treatments are well worth it simply for giving you the extra time in the morning so you don’t have to apply mascara or define your brows. I found it especially useful when I had a newborn.
    • Embrace the dry shampoo. 14 years ago, when I first became a mum dry shampoo did not really exist. Those days were hard but luckily they are now just a distant memory. I don’t know where I’d be without dry shampoo. I think it’s important not to over use it as it can build up on your scalp which is not healthy for the skin. But for those days where you know you need to wash your hair but you just haven’t got time and you don’t want to look like a greasy mess, a couple of sprays and you’re ready to go. Such a lifesaver. This one by Batiste is my favourite.

I hope you enjoyed this post. How do you save time on your beauty routine? What are your favorite products? I would love to hear from you in the comment section below.
